For example, this means that even though you can interact with Unlock Protocol smart contracts using the Unlock Dashboard, you can also interact with the contract using other front-end applications, such as blockchain explorers, as well!<\/p>\n<p>Blockchain explorers (also called block explorers) are one of the most useful front end applications in web3. Even though they&#8217;re not the most user-friendly, blockchain explorers like\u00a0Etherscan are a common way to interact directly with smart contracts across the web3 ecosystem.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Each major blockchain has its own blockchain explorer. (In the Unlock Protocol ecosystem, we call the smart contracts &#8220;locks.&#8221;) Verification can be done by anyone and takes only a few seconds.\u00a0<\/p><p>From the <a href=\"https:\/\/unlock-protocol.com\/guides\/how-to-create-a-lock\/\">Unlock Dashboard<\/a>, click on the <code class=\"Code-BG\">Block Explorer<\/code> link.<\/p><p>Then, click on the\u00a0<code class=\"Code-BG\">Contract<\/code> tab. In the screen that opens, look for the\u00a0<code class=\"Code-BG\">More Options<\/code>\u00a0button and select\u00a0<code class=\"Code-BG\">Is this a Proxy?<\/code>\u00a0in the list of options. On the next screen, click on\u00a0<code class=\"Code-BG\">Verify<\/code> and then\u00a0<code class=\"Code-BG\">Save<\/code>\u00a0in the confirmation popup. To Read, just click on the\u00a0<span class=\"Code-BG\"><code>Read as Proxy<\/code><\/span>\u00a0button. You will then see a list of functions you can call on the contract, or even values directly.<\/p><p>On the following screenshot you can see how many valid memberships a given address owns (that&#8217;s <code class=\"Code-BG\">balanceOf<\/code>), who the <code class=\"Code-BG\">beneficiary<\/code> of the contract is (who receives the funds), or the base\u00a0<code class=\"Code-BG\">expirationDuration<\/code>\u00a0(the number here means that these are unlimited; they never expire on that lock).
